I want 1 torr vacuum in my 2500 lit capacity reactor (empty). How do i design vacuum system??
what are the parameters to be considered?? are there any thumb rules??
please suggest.
Thanks
Trilok
Dear Mr.Trilok,
I take this opportunity to introduce me as Chemical Engineer with M.Chem Engg degree from Mumbai University. Age 62 Years. I am assosiciated with M/s Patkar Vacuulab KashiMira Ind.Estate,Mira Dist.Thane (cell: 09892244796)as their consultant.
I suggest you first estimate practically the air leak rate of your vessel to be evacuated by following method.:---
1.evacuate the vessel by any available equipment to at least -650 to-700 mm Hg.
2.isolate and seal the vessel
3.measure the rate of rise in pressure or drop in vacuum of the vessel as mmHg/hr
by taking observations for at least 3 hrs. at 30 min interval.
4. If the leak rate is Delta P then
suction capcity(cu.m/hr)of vacuum system = Delta P(mmHg/hr) * volume of vessel (cu.m)/desired ultimate pressure mm Hg at ambent temperature.
For more accurate estimation of the capacity please obtain the rate data for non condensible gases from the system to be evacuated( distillation plant or vacuum drying plant, )and add this capacity to
to the air leak rate.
The steam ejector suppliers usually offer their product based on air handling rate and also specify the input steam pressure and quantity.
My calculation method has been very useful for offering mechanical pumps-- e.g. Once through lubrication (OTL) pumps for system volumes similar to your requirements.

It would take an Excel Workbook to tell you what you want to know. Tell me your email address and I'll send you the subject Workbook on how to generate a vacuum. (Also, tell me your full name, location or country, and your industry or company name)

Dear Stefano,
I am working on designing a vaccum system for a hot water washing tank system. Would you mind sharing the UOP manual for " maximum air leakages for commerically tight systems" or give me a source to downlaod the same. I have been refering to Ludwig for the same just want to check if the UOP manual also gives the same leakage rates.
Highly appreciated
Regards
