Dear all,
Does anyone have any knowledge of pretreating an oily water mix that currently exists as an emulsion. It is thought that the cause of the emulsion is a wetting agent used during asbestos removal. Also present are solvents (in low concentrations), Tritiated water, and possibly some Co60.
Any help is appreciated!
Cheers,

Nick

Sounds like a good application for Ultrafiltration. Depending on the final water quality desired... you could possiby use an RO/NF membrane combination to remove more than just the oil... potentiall replacing other downstream treatment. There is a huge variety of membranes out there.. the various suppliers will be able to suggest appropriate membrane choices and likely separation efficiencies.

Hope this helps!
Nat.

You could try heating a test sample to see if there is a reasonable break-out temperature for the emusion.
Then the easiest way to separate it is though heating and gravity separation.
