Dear Gentlemen:

Is it safe to mix solvent (alcohol, methanol, BTEX,.......etc) in certain proportion with diesel and use the mixture as fuel to a burner.

The solvent is either expired, recovered, or just a waste of no use! If yes, is there a rule for mixing or any restrictions on mixing?

Thank you for advice.

Dear Elpasha,

I suppose you are talking about process heater / raw gas burners. Then, in this case i would suggest you take the veiws of the burner supplier.

The oil guns in the given burner are designed for a particular oil, i.e. spgr, viscosity & upstream pressure. The existing oil tip may overfire in case a lighter oil is used, leading to unsafe conditions and there is also chances of vapor locking in the oil gun (as methanol + diesel will be having a higher vapor pressure.)

Te burner OEM's are the experts & they should be consulted at the earliest.

Regards,
