Can anyone help me with the nozzle design criteria for ProMax? I am currently designing an oil and gas separator and the nozzle sizes calculated by ProMax are lower than what I got by hand calculation. Hand calculation employs a maximum of 80 ft/s velocity in pipes. I know this is a rule of thumb, but I’m not sure if it still holds.

You can find separator sizing at www.bobby-strain-group.com. Just use the vertical separator sizing and it will size the nozzles for you. You can use the horizontal separator rating program to check ProMax sizing.
