Hi
Im attempting to model an existing column using aspen HYSYS, I know the dimesions of the column (diameter, height, packing height ect). I want to model this exact column, but i can't work out a way of inputting these dimensions into HYSYS (seems like HYSYS generally calculates these parameters for you from the conditions and flows you enter at the start), does anyone know how to do this at all (if its possible)
Cheers

Looks like you need to start with the HYSYS manual and learn.

HYSYS works on the basis of theoretical equilibrium stages (i.e. trays with 100% efficiency). To model a packed tower you need to make an estimate of the HETP (height equivalent of a theoretical plate) based on data from the packing vendor or the literature.
Then you run the model and adjust the number of theoretical stages until you match the observed performance. This tells you the actual HETP and provides a basis to model alternate cases for the same tower (or a tower in a very similar service with the same packing).
If you want to do a more rigorous analysis, Aspen Plus has a rate-based column solver, but you may find it wants more data that you have about mass transfer coefficients.

In Hysys 7.3, they have added in the rate based column module.
