Dear Friends

A have a simple question; for me at first, but got complicated then.

I calculate 50 ton/hr circulation propane rate in hysys software for my plant.

I want to know whats the propane volume for first filling?

Thanks

Unfortunately, circulation rate has nothing to do with the system volume. It is an operational (or design) parameter only. You can have the same circulation rate for systems containing 1,000 or 2,000 or 3,000 cubic meters volume.

For calculating the filling volume, you need to obtain operational volumes of all liquid propane-containing vessels in the circuit, plus the liquid propane-filled piping in the same loop. That is the starting point.

Thanks alot

I am in basic design phase and I just have simulation of the plant.

It's the reason of complication. I should go one step ahead.

Zauberberg, the traveling Chemical Engineer Gypsy, is correct.  You need to have an accurate knowldege of the actual, real, piping layout (isometric drawings included) to identify the real piping lengths, fittings, and vessels.

I doubt that you would be operating with 100% propane-filled vessels.   My best practice is to fill vessels up to 85% maximum; I design for 80% fill.

I prepared a workbook a long time ago where I listed a lot of fittings information regarding the volume contained in the fittings.  If this helps, let me know and I'll post it here.
