Good day,

I am currently working on my MSc. dissertation project which involves hydraulic debottlenecking on distillation columns. I will be conducting simulations using Hysys and an in-house university software to identify the bottleneck. My objective will be in removing the bottleneck by various techniques.

Can anyone provide a distillation case study covering the following with proper reference if possible:

  • Feed - flow, pressure, temperature, composition. Note: A wide range of component is preferred. Such as, C1 to C8 for example
  • Products - Top and Bottoms specs
  • Operating conditions of column - top and bottom pressures and temperatures, reflux ratio
  • Number of stages

All data should be provided for simulation on Hysys.

I would also like information of the tray internals such as:

  • Tray type - preferably sieve
  • Column diameter
  • Hole diameter
  • Weir height
  • Weir length
  • Active or bubble area
  • Hole area
  • Downcomer clearance and area
  • Tray spacing

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Rakesh

I suggest you get a sample simulation from HYSYS sample files. This should be a good starting point.

All  you might find these two books by Henry Kister useful: Distillation Design and Distillation troubleshooting.
