Dear all,

 

How to deceide the location of tank inlet? If the Tank inlet in the top of tank, then how to deceide whether the the inlet pipe to be extended till the tank bottom or at the top?

 

What plays major role in deciding? Either the Flow rate, Hazardous nature or static electricity?

 

If inlet is in from the bottom, Is there any special arrangement required?

Both location can be acceptable but mostly the inlet is applied from the tank bottom...

 

If you enter from the top, in most cases you have to extend the inlet pipe till near the bottom to avoid static electricity or liquid splash but you should consider siphon break...

well your question is very generic:

 

First of all if the inlet is coming from source at same elevation as tank & no pipe rack is involved, why would you want to have top inlet, as it will simply require more head. Also you need to do proper hydraulic study for bottom inlet as inflow has to first overcome the liquid head in tank, if it is pumped liquid it is fine for gravity case this is not possible. you would like to avoid splashing & static electicity related hazard for hydrocarbon system only, no worries if it is a water tank.

Currently i am working on Liquid Sulphur Storage tank and its have inlet fom the top. Previously i saw Gasoil Storage tank where the inlet is from bottom. The major difference I saw is, For Gasoil storage tank there is no near by Piperack & for Sulphur tank, have piperacks.The major challange is to provide the steam jacket for the internal piping, Since it extended to the bottom of the tank. This is because, we not able to provide NRVs in Liquid sulphur lines.
