I have seen that high flow high head pumps generally have a high NPSH requirement and generally
are given a bosster pump along with.
Could you please explain the concept and reason behind this

PYG,
It is supposed your query relates to centrifugal pumps...
NPSHR value mostly depends on flow rather than pump head and becomes higher as flow increases. In fact, this means more pressure head would be required at the pump suction for high flows than low ones. A booster pump would be used to compensate shortage of NPSHA which cannot be simply provided in some high flow cases...
