Hi all,

Apologies to bring up this subject back to the forum.

This has been discussed earlier, just wanna know the impact of the exceeding of the nozzle inlet momentum to the integrity of the inlet nozzle (piping) and the vessel itself. coz, there is a scenario that the existing vessel designed, the inlet nozzle momentum has exceed the momentum criteria.  if this happen, the justification to change of the inlet nozzle would it be solely on the separation issue or will it be based on the mechanical integrity.

As i could not find any literature that mentioned the impact of the inlet nozzle momentum to the piping / vessel.

appreciate ur response..

Inlet momentum criteria is solely meant to help separation, it is not about mechanical integrity.

If you feel the inlet nozzle is too small then you could add inpingement device inside vessel directing the incoming stream towards the vessel head or wall.

Hi,

Momentum of the feed would mostly affect the inlet device selection for proper distribution and orientation of the incoming fluid inside the vessel to achieve better separation efficiency. Deflector baffle, slotted tee distributor, half-open pipe, 90 elbow and scheopentoeter are the inlet devices might be used as per specified momentum limitations...
