hi!

For a long long time, I have been tryng to simulate a 3-phase column on HYSYS. My system is isopropanol/water/cyclohexane.

If anyone has simulated this system or any other system in the 3-phase column, please drop me a mail, or reply here.

Thanks!

Ankur

First of all you'll need the right property package - which is probably NRTL or UNIQUAC.
The column will need to use the Sparse Continuation Solver, known for erratic convergence. Try using 'easy' specs, like distillate rate, reboiler duty, etc. You'll have to tell Hysys something that is pretty close to the answer in order to get the column converged. Also, look how the problem converges (monitor the temperature profile while it is solving, for example). Try playing with the damping factor to reduce flip-flopping. The good news is, once you've converged the column, you can update the specs and keep a converged solution most of the time.

No I don't. This is just my experience with other systems in the same ballpark.

I do have a solved case for a three phase column. Sine the simulation contains soe confedential information, I can not share it with you. However, if you run into specific problem, I can definitely help you. I can be reached at : abhishek_agrawal@lntenc.com
