As part of my final year design project, i am to design a steam jacketed stirred reactor for the formation of Biodiesel from Jatropha and methanol. The reaction temp is optimum at 60 0 C.

1. How do i size the space in the jacket? Coulson vol. 6 gave this rule The spacing between the jacket and vessel wall will depend on the size of the vessel, but will typically range from 50 mm for small vessels to 300 mm for large vessels.

2. How do i compute the heat transfer effectiveness from the jacket?
