Dear Sir,
I am a student of a university here in Pakistan. I want to know how to design a pressure vessel in accordance with ASME section VIII\3 subjected to internal pressure only and is of cylinderical type with flat top and bottom lids? As I have no experience in this field, so please tell me how to start the design. We know the inside diameter ,height and material and the fluid inside the vessel is Glycerine. My e-mail address is

Go to:

and try to get a copy of Eugene Megyesy's great book on process vessel design. You can use the Google Search Engine and find many places where you can buy it. One price is $118. You can probably find cheaper sites.

I have written many threads on this subject for students on this forum. Use the Search Engine and read up on what I've said. I hate to just keep repeating - that's why I put it down in writing.

I would not employ a flat head on a pressure vessel. You've chosen the weakest type of head that can be employed on a vessel. Use a 2:1 ellipsoidal or an ASME F&D head. Download the spreadsheets you can find on pvn.com web site that I recommend you visit on the other threads.

Last, but not least, buy the Megyesy book and study it.
