I would like to know the standard for using flame arrester in a lowe pressure fuel line. How to decide whether  flame arrester is required or not. We are planning to use ARU flash hydrocarbon for combustion in SRU incinerator.

Hi syed,

Well, i do not know particular about your system. But as far as flame arrester is concerned, there are few criterias.

check whether is there any chances of flame propagation back to system which contains hydrocarbon mixture that has flash point within the limit.

Also, see what is the design pressure of the system in question. Generally, if the system design pressure is 125Psig, you do not need flame arrester. This is what we normally follow for the KO drum whose vents are open to atmosphere.

Be cautious about location of flame arrester. As per BP guidlines, flame arrester shall not be used when there a posibility of flame arrester getting plugged. If possibility, system must be provided with alternative safety devices.

These guidlines mainly for flare systems.

Hope this helps.
