All,

I just remember i had this great forum. since i moved to the production side of the business i am crazy busy (not visiting this site as often as i used to). Anyway i have a problem. My plant makes polyester resin (PET). i have a desuperheater that helps saturate the superheated dowterm. given the poor heat transfer on the heat exchanger downstream of the desuperheater, i started the process of elimination. one of the things  i do not know how to cross out is the desuperheater. How to you troubleshoot a desuperheater? yesterday i decrease the degree of superheat but this not help a lot. something i noticed is that the condensate from the desuperheater is much hotter then the return from the heat exchanger returns, to me it make sense but a group of people at my at the site tend to believe that they should be equal.

Thank you,

There should be no condensate left from a good desuperheater.  The inlets of a superheater should be superheated steam + condensate and the outlet should be saturated steam only.

Hi pingue,

As shan said, from desuperheater outlet, there should not be any condensate to come out. This shows the spray nozzle of desuperheater has eroded and makes inefficient spray. What type of desupeheater you are using?
