1) Non-corrosive to the vessel and instrument components;
2) Does not contain species incompatible with flare gas, that can cause e.g. creation and deposition of solids;
3) Readily available on site.

The water used in seal drum should be compatible with drum material and if the minimum ambient temperature is subzero, must be protected against freezing, say, by adding anti freezing agent such as Ethylene Glycol...
