Hello
During an discussion with my boss, I came across an easy way to calculate the hold up volume of a pipeline (with an error of 2%). Just thought sharing it.
Holdup volume of a pipe (m3) / per Kilometer = 0.5 x (Pipe Size in inch)2
Example:
Calculate holdup volume of a 12" pipe of length 3 Kilometers:
Holdup volume per Kilometer = 0.5 x (12)2 = 72 m3 / per kilometer
Holdup Volume for 3 KM length = 72 x 3 = 216 m3
Exact calaculation will be = 3.142 x (10 x 0.025)2 x (1/4) x 3000 = 212 m3
% Error = (4 / 212) x 100 = 1.88 %
Requesting other members to share similar shortcut calculations.
