Diesel engine is a compression ignition type while petrol engines are spark ignition type. In diesel engines, air is compressed and diesel is injected into it. Diesel when it flows through should overcome the friction. Untreated diesel blends, have natural lubricants (naphthenic acids, esters). They do not need lubricanting additives. But in hydrotreated diesel, these natural lubricants are lost. So they need additives to improve lubrication. ATM D 6079 (HFRR) is a test for lubricity. These additives are available with several companies like Lubrizol, Exxon, Chevron, Nalco etc.
