Helo,

Could someone help me.

I am designing naphta pipeline, and I need to instal thermometer and manometer and I am not sure if I can install threadolet (4"-3/4") on naphta 4" pipe because my design pressure is 45bar.

I am afraid that threded connection would leak at 45bar.

Do anyone know where can I check this?

Thanks

gjutrisa:

45 barg is not a very high pressure in many engineering applications.  I've used screwed fittings (primarily for instrumentation connections) in systems working with pressures as high as 3,000 psig (approx 200 barg) - with no detected leakage.  And this has been done with high pressure hydrogen ....

What determines whether a screwed fitting will leak or not is the QUALITY of the threaded connection (both the male and female components) - not the fact that it is a threaded connection.  Admittedly, the quality of many threads has gotten down to "unacceptable".  I've rejected many Chinese parts in the past due to obvious lack of quality in the threads.  In the past, I only rely on quality suppliers that I can trust.

The proper application of Teflon tape has, in the past, produced time-tested leak proof joints.  If applying it, learn how to do it properly and in a logical manner.  If mis-applied, it can cause more harm than good.
