Dear All,

I am working on COD reduction from effluent stream having following composition.

Water    :80%

Dimethyl Siulfoxide(DMSO) :11%

Ethyl Acetate   :8 %

Unknown Organic by products :1%

pH    :7-8

I need to recover & recycle DMSO out of the stream & send the water with low(minimum) COD for further treatment.

Desired composition:

Water stream: Maximum 1% DMSO content

Can anyone guide me to design the system for the stream?

Regards,

Hiren Dave

Good luck

Hi Breizh,

Thanks for reply.

I tried Google.

Being Dilute stream (11% DMSO) it not cost effective to go with flash distillation.

I am looking forward to any Liquid liquid Extraction or Extractive distillation if anyone has deal with such situation.

Regards,

Hiren Dave

Try extraction with toluene. DMSO is soluble in toluene which can be separated from water..

Dear sir,

I have tried with toluene & dichloromethane both are practically insoluble in water.

But unable to extract DMSO out of water.

Both layers weight remain as it is.

Any other suggestion?
