Dear all,

I have to simulate the extractive distillation column by using ASPEN  to match the pilot plant distillation data. My pilot column is a packed column. At first, I use the equilibrium model approach and tend to adjust Murphree efficiency to match the temp profile. Some of my advisers say that I should use rate-based model because it represents the mass transfer behavior better than equilibrium stage approach and I've read some books and it also said this. But some say that the rate-base model in ASPEN is not accurate. Furthermore, in rate-based approach, A+ can not be used in VLLE mode, but in extractive distillation, VLLE tends to occur. Do you think which one is more appropriate

Except that, one of my advisers said that when I fixed the feed tray location, and adjust Murphree efficiency. The feed tray location is implicitly changed in the simulation, which does not match the real thing that happen because I fixed the feed tray location. In my opinion, I think in the opposite direction but not sure. Do you think this idea is correct?

Thank you very much for your recommendation and your time.
