here is a typical industrial problem where HNO2 is to be separated from Spent acid (Sulphuric acid and Nitric Acid) the details of Spent Acid is as follows

Spent Acid:

Total 10MT of Spent Acid

99.7 % of H2SO4

0.3 % HNO2

70 % solution,

density - 1500 kg/m3

0.3 % of HNO3 is to separated and brought down below 0.05 % , this has been experimented on pilot scale which is successful , with 500 Ltr of Spent acid was top fed in a Packed Column, of packing height 2M with SS Pall rings in it, and dia of packing was 0.3 m , and air was introduced from bottom at a rate of 500 LPM the separation took 25 hrs , now that can any one optimize or suggest any improvement in it and design it for 10 MT of spent Acid to separate in 8 to 10 hrs.  pls let me know.

Query: 1)Is Temp to be mentioned at 85 to 90 deg C for boiling of HNO2

            2) the air which was introduced was at room temp , does pre-heating the separation be effective,

            3) MOC of Column and type of  Packing to be used, tower ht and Dia
