We need to select a gas treatment technology and sulphur recovery process, we are thinking to not consider the gas treatment process and go directly to sulphur recovery unit (SRU), we would like to know if this is possible or the convenient or inconveniences to do this, or if there any know case about this (similar experience)

The sour gas molar composition is as follow:

H2S: 60%
H2: 20 %
C1-C4: 15%
C5+:5%

Many thanks in advance.

Paty:

Please be specific.  Do you want to produce elemental sulfur (as in a Claus Process)?  Or do you want to simply remove the acid gas from your feed mixture and produce a sulfur-free hydrocarbon stream?  Or perhaps you require the latter, and feel that you must accept the former.

What is your basic Scope of Work?

Is this a real-life project, or an academic assignment?  Have you already looked at, and evaluated, some processes?

Paty.,

As I have known before., Gas Processing Plant have Biological Sulphur Recovery unit ( BSRU ). At these unit, Acid Gas come from Acid Gas Recovery unit ( AGRU )  separated H2S to become Sulphur pellet. We putted Bioreactor to consume H2S with bacteria and made it to slurry. These slurry are flow to Sulphur Solidification& Bagging Unit.

my 2 cents....

it seems an academic / over simplified exercise....

the gas is too rich in HCs to be directly sent to an SRU (Claus). a further step of enrichment (AGRU) is requested upstream of the SRU.

the most used technology for SRU is Claus, not the bio processes. there are other options (eg LoCat, production of H2SO4 instead of S, etc)

depending from the orign, usually the gas is contaminated by some of the following materials: water, ammonia, CO2, COS, HCN, amines,,,,the level of these contaminants are decisive to select the right process configuration.

also important is the required recovery of H2S, under the emissions / air quality point of view

I suggest to consult the book "Kohl, Nielsen, Gas Purification"

.......

good luck!
