Hello,

I have to perform hydraulic calculation of trayed column in HYSYS. There are trapeziporm valves. The nearest type of valves I've determined as Nutter-BDH. Is it correct to calculate number of BDH valves based on it's free area (area under valve). Can I calculate the area as Leg Lenght * Lenght valve*2 for this purpose?

You need to choose equivalent area that most closely matches vapor pressure drop across the tray. Check out this page.

http://www.koch-glit...alve-types.aspx. The correct spelling is trapeziform. Koch-Glitsch has a free tray rating program that might have valve types closer to the one you need.
