Hello there,

I am sizing a centrifugal pump to be used as a sand jetting pump to fluidize the sand in five different production separators. The jet water requirement to fluidize the sand as well as the pressure requirement from the pump at the inlet header of the separators are all different.

I would like to specify a pump and flow control valve which is able to accommodate all the range of the flows and the pressure drop requirement from across the control valve for these different flows. Could you please provide me a hint on how to start the analysis of this system to find the pump and control valve for this particular conditions.

I would like to have an idea of what the system that I am designing requires in terms of pressure from the pump and pressure drop across the control valve.

Attached are the different process conditions which the pump I am sizing will operate.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,

Jose

Looks like all the conditions can be met with a single pump. You should size the pump to deliver with the highest head. And install an orifice into the branch to the two lower pressure separators and the low flow separator sized such that the control valve has a reasonable inlet pressure and lift. Once you have some preliminary numbers, contact your valve and pump suppliers for the best fit.

Hello Bobby,

Thank you so much for your reply to my post.

You are totally right. I got the very same response from Sulzer Pumps engineers who will specify a pump which can handle this operating envelope.

Regards,

Jose
