We are carrying out sampling analysis of the acid gas at the inlet and outlet of the hydrogenation reactor catalyst at one of our SRU.
Since the start of the analysis we have not been able to attain proper analysis of SO2 at the inlet as well as the outlet
As per H&M balance, the inlet and outlet SO2 should be 0.2% and 0% respectively. This however is not seen in our lab analysis.
We are suspected the following issues:
- Sampling contamination, as there is water vapor present in the acid gas and hence improrper sampling can lead to reaction between the SO2 and Water vapour producing and hence give wrong reading.
- Strahman valve that is present for sample collection has an addtional fitting attached to it and hence that is causing sulfur/acid gas condensation and hence wrong reading.
Are the above assumptions right or is there any other thing that we should be looking at or there is other source of contamincation
Also how easily can SO2 analysis be masked by contamination from Water vapor, impurities etc.
