Hi,
is it possible for the nozzle schedule to be different than pipe schedule.
for eg if nozzle schedule is 12 inch 40 sch and pipe schedule is 12 inch 20 schedule..will this work??

It can. This is usually a consequence of one side being "overdesigned", but there are cases where the nozzle on the equipment doesn't need the same wall thickness as the pipe because the nozzle is short and is reinforced by the vessel/exchanger shell. You need to recognize that there may be a flow restriction or turbulence making situation when this happens (because the IDs are not the same). This can be dangerous if the fluid can wear the material (for instance if there is sand in the fluid).

Hi,
How about nozzle flange?
You should use the design pressure as a basis, then check the nozzle flange rating and associated pipe thickness to cover the design pressure. In this way, if both would be within the range no matter one of them is stronger than another.
