Hi, I am currently doing an experiment of measuring the discharge flow rate through an orifice on the side of a tank that is discharging water freely into the air whilst the water level in the tank is kept constant. I also calculated the coefficient of discharge from the following equation; Q=Cd*a*√2gH. Initially the values I got for Cd are more than 1. How do I justify why the Cd values are more than 1 and why should it ideally be less than 1? Also, does anyone have any references from literature that I could check on the typical values for Cd for orifices discharging freely into the air? I need reliable sources that I can quote. Thank you
