Hi , there,

I heard other process engineer say the FKOD recycle pump shall be designed to empty the liquid within 2hrs as per API521. But, I checked the API521 and there is no such clauses to mention this 2 hrs time period.

So, does anyone know this thing?

Thanks,

FP

Practices followed in the industry differs from clients to engineering companies. I have seen 2 hrs pump out capacity criteria followed by a global refinery giant.

API 521 leaves this pump capacity to be decided as per pump out time acceptable to client.

As per one of the standards followed in India pump capacity should clear the liquid hold up within 20 to 30 mins.

I have also seen a global renowned EPC company defining this pump capacity based on possible liquid relief load to the KOD.

Hi,

As far as I know,

There is no criteria for pumping out the liquid, the value should be based on the flowrate of the pump acceptable to the user.

The hold-up time of hydrocarbon in the Flare KOD for the max relief case should be around 20 to 30 mins.
