We are looking at having V-Cone or an Elbow Annubar in the gas to flare header.Gas is clean.We are allowed +-5% accuracy .The flow is maximum 72 million SCFD.The pressure is 20.3 PSIG upstream of the meter.V-cone needs min straight length and has higher rangeability as compared to annubar.I am convinced V-Cone will work.
Can some one please throw light on their experience with V-CONE.

Why not just use an orifice run if you've got the pressure drop available? My only experience with V-Cones was to ask about one sitting on a colleague's desktop. He told me it had broken off and blown downstream into a strainer. (Good thing they had a strainer.) I never got a full story on that other than there had been some "flow instability", but it was enough for me to take note.

Thanks.I have taken note of these two points.I shall contact vendor.V Cone has no moving parts.It has a Cone inserterd into a pipe.They have to address integrity as the flow is high in this case 72 million SCFD.The cone profiles the flow.That way staright length requirement is greatly reduced.
Orifice was initialy thought about.But we have to keep pressure drop across flare tip and stack.There is no more than 2-2.5 psi available for the meter.

An orifice meter needs only sbout 50 inches of water dP at maximum flowrate, and part of that is recoverable. By pushing the limits a bit, you can get by with even less dP - 20 inches is fairly easy, and even 10 inches might be obtainable. Of course, at that level you'd be needing to take special precautions. A flow nozzle is another possibility if dP is critical. Other devices including a V Cone should be investigated and each has its own advantages.
