We are facing with the fouling issue of steam tubine using HHP steam from CO boiler.

The existing design of BFW nozzle is upward and nearby the distribution nozzle of chemical. We think that chemical may carry over with steam and cause fouling for the turbine.

I have heard that some steam drums designed with nozzles downward and the mentioned issue has not occured.

SOme ideas suggested to make a cover the upward nozzles to prevent chemical carry over.

Please help to clarify/share some concerns/information as follows:

1. Any standard required for direction of BFW nozzles (upward/downward)?

2. Any case study of cover for upward nozzles has been applied somewhere?

3. Any other solution to mitigate the fouling issue?

Thank you and best regards

I will offer my answers to your questions:

1. Any standard required for direction of BFW nozzles (upward/downward)?

There is no standard for direction of BFW nozzles.

2. Any case study of cover for upward nozzles has been applied somewhere?

No one has published a case study of applications of covers for upward nozzles.

3. Any other solution to mitigate the fouling issue?

Adjust water chemistry.

Dear Mr Breizh

Thanks for your advice.

Chemical supplier recomended to modify the nozzle to downward direction or make a cover for BFW line.
