Can flare kO drum ever require blanketing? since kod has pump, is there risk of vaccum since pump will operate and keep emptying the vessel - this will decrease pressure inside vessel? is blanketing necessay on ko drum?

Hi,
The purpose of the pump is to transfer liquid accumulated in the KO drum, meaning there is a LSL to prevent cavitation of the pump . Why will you get vacuum in the KO drum , you don't empty the drum in normal operation ?
My understanding , no need for blanketing .
my view only.

The flare KOD is permanently connected to the atmosphere via the flare header and stack and,on the other hand, the KOD pump (normally with low capacity) operation is intermittent based on LLL and HLL inside the KOD. Hence there is no need to blanketing against emptying the inventory by pump operation.

There is a lot of variation in flare system designs. One primary concern is to avoid a flame everywhere except the flare tip. This may require gas to be purposefully flowed into the system to keep air out..This gas would normally be called 'sweep' or 'purge' and not 'blanketing' even though it may look like the drum is being blanketed. The KO drum may supply a liquid seal to protect against air backflow. In those designs, the liquid level is controlled but never emptied on purpose while the vessel is in operation.
