Biogas Generators are large vessels in which animal waste or specially grown crops such as maize are allowed to anaerobically digest. The process of Biogas Generation involves the conversion of organic matter into energy. If domestic waste is used as a source of methane , this also reduces the volume of domestic waste added to landfill sites. This can be achieved by using bio-diesel engines that convert  natural gas into electricity. Biogas plants use a mix of both organic and non-organic fuels. Biogas plants produce their own fuel, which is then converted into electricity. This is done through an electric generator. These generators generate electricity by converting natural gas into electricity. Biogas plants are usually located in rural areas where there is a lack of electricity. They are often located near urban areas or other places with low population density. These plants are used for heating and cooling purposes.

Landfills can be covered by impermeable membrane and the generated biogas collected for fuel which can be used in the garbage trucks. This avoids fuel transportation problems and provides a convenient location for refueling the trucks. These collection trucks don't get very good fuel mileage anyway so there is a considerable savings in purchased fuel as well as net reduction in methane offgas put to the environment.
