Hello,

 

As part of a college project, I have been tasked to design a moving grate incinerator for a waste to energy chp plant. I have recently completed the material and energy balance and I have now come to the point where I am looking to design and size the incinerator.

 

I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me towards a short cut calculation for the design of a moving grate incinerator. I have been unable to find anything useful myself so far.

 

If a short cut design is not available, any help and advice anyone can offer on the sizing and design of the incinerator would be a big help!

Ours is a Chemical Engineering oriented Website.  We certainly welcome all other engineering disciplines, but our specialty remains in the traditional Chemical Engineering profession.

 

Fired Boiler design is, I'm afraid, out of our normal expertise - especially a moving grate.  However, there may be some members familiar with this piece of equipment.  I have been involved with boilers using moving grates to fire bagasse fuel - but I wouldn't dare try to design one.

I participated in a hazard and operability review of an incinerator several years ago but don't have any design shortcuts. You have a process flow sheet and a heat and material balance already so the next step is to design the equipment. That means sizing each unit op to meet the requirements.
