Usually flare KO drums operating pressure is close to atmospheric pressure. Is it possible during operation that flare KO drum pressure reaches its design pressure value?

Thanks

We are not a good alternative to calculations.

Hi,

In general, no...

In the most design practices the minimum design pressure of pressure vessels are to be set at around 3.5 barg, e.g. the design pressure of the flare KODs as pressure vessels with low operating pressure. Then almost in no case of operating conditions, KOD pressure reaches to its design pressure value, because the real and required design pressure of such drum is lower.

The design pressure of 3.5 barg (50psig) is based on an upset condition of deflagration pressure containment (API 521 and NFPA 69). As fallah stated, normal operation will not reach design pressure condition.

Cheers,
Chris
