Good day

I have to design a reactor where a slurry is leached using nitric acid.  I know I have to use the shrinking core model and have all the equations, but I am having trouble applying them to the reactor design.  I am looking to design an agitated tank reactor.

Can someone please assist me in how to use the shrinking core model to design the reactor?

Thank you :)

Did you Goggle?  I see a couple long YouTube videos on shrinking core model.

Thank you for the response!  I have googled, the videos only explain the theory but don't give any applications thereof.

I also referred to textbooks and journal articles, so I understand the model, but my calculations are looking strange...

So I was wondering if I maybe didn't follow the correct procedure in applying the theory.

Hi,

To get a proper answer you should show us your work for us to understand your difficulties. That is the way it works.

Take a look at this link, you may find pointers for your study

Thank you very much for the resource!

I am attaching the equations I have used and my procedure of using them, if that could also help to just be 100% sure I am applying the shrinking core model correctly.

If anyone would please help?

I am uncertain if I should use Cbs^3 or only Cbs for the reaction rate at this point?

Hi,

A good resource could be: Chemical reaction engineering (3rd edition) Octave Levenspiel .

https://www.bitmesra...ule 3 Notes.pdf

https://web.vscht.cz...c reactions.pdf

https://iieng.org/im...403E1115039.pdf

Note : RE(OH)3 is rare earth hydroxide, right?

Consider the thesis attached, unfortunately in French. You will find some info about shrinking core model applied to the treatment of monazite with caustic soda with reference to Levenspiel's book.

I cannot offer more.

Good luck

Breizh
