Design Pressure For Natural Gas Gathering Pipelines.

Dear All,

What should be the design pressure of natural gas gathering lines if Well Shut In pressure is 3400 psig while gathering line operating pressure is 1000 - 800 psig.

 

Any recommendations or resources that could be helpful in this regards.

Because of consequences of failure, I would design piping for 2200 psig or so. If existing pipe were rated above 1600 psig that might be okay to use, but I would beef that up for a new system. If the upper management wanted to accept more risk, then that decision would be on them.
