Hello Guys.

I hope you all are fine and enjoying your life with health wealth and peace.

CASE STUDY

I have a question and I am confused in that. The questions is;

Pump P01 used to pump treated naphtha having RVP of 1.8 psi. Can we use this same pump P01 for pumping reformate (catalytic reforming product) having RVP of 6-9 psi.

Note: We cannot change pump specification as its already rated and in operation.

Pump Details:

Pump No 01 (Feed Pump) (Untreated Naphtha Pump)

Suction = - 1.5 Psig

Capacity = 144 USGPM

Differential Head = 576 psi

Discharge = 574.5 psig

Pump No 02 (Reboiler Pump) (Treated Naphtha Pump)

Suction = 93 Psig

Capacity = 144 USGPM

Differential Head = 428 ft

Discharge = 512 psig

Either these both pumps (P01 & P02) will work or not ? These both pumps are used for pumping naphtha. P01 is for untreated naphtha & P02 is for treated naphtha. Now can we use anyone of these pumps for pumping reformate ? Line sizes/dimensions are not changed its same. Instead of pumping naphtha to location we need to pump reformate.

Hi,

Only you can perform the hydraulic calculation and decide whether or not these pumps are suitable for your application.

You or someone in your organization need to establish a specification sheet and submit it to vendors who supplied your existing pumps for advice.

Did you contact seal manufacturer will it withstand increase of RVP?
