What exactly is seal pan test in distillation column? How is it done?
Which is often done by Process Engineers during Turnaround of the units in distillation columns.

The seal pan prevents vapor from flowing up the downcomer. Usually this is only necessary on the bottom tray of a column because once this tray is operating normally the liquid level on the tray will seal the downcomer from the second tray. In this way the bottom tray is sealed and reaches normal (hydraulic) operation first and then normal operation is achieved successively tray by tray moving up the column.
I have never seen a seal pan test done.
