How is it decided whether steam should be used or a re-boiler should be used in side strippers of CDU/VDU units.

It is observed provision for both are provided in side

How to appropriately use both effectively for maintaining the side cut specification?

Please guide.

Reboiled strippers are often used if you need to keep the product dry, e.g. kerosine

Diesel also needs to be dry but its easier to vacuum dry it due to high boiling point than kerosine.

Another advantage of reboiling kerosine strippers is it increases reflux rate around the entire top section of column, not just the stripper, and improves speration, at the expense of more energy consumption.

SilverShaded has more real refinery experience than I do and seems to know a lot. I defer to his expertise. My refinery work is related only to simulation. I can only suggest modeling the process both ways and comparing.
