Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question regarding seeding crystals in NaCl crystallization process. Our facility use the general multiple effect evaporator arrangement to produce NaCl and our seed crystals are (CaSO4) gypsum and fine NaCl crystals.

My question is "will an increase of seed loading/mass improve the NaCl crystallization rate/yield?"

I know that evaporation rate and brine quality are the key components of producing NaCl, I am just curious if seed crystals will have any impact on the yield? (I think it does, but do not have a solid evidence). I am also aware that seed crystals will impact its supersaturation and crystal growth/size.

Thanks,

Jordan

Hi,

As you said, it will impact crystal growth, size and shape thus yield during the recovery stage meaning filtration, less loss of material in the mother liquor, stability of equipment, less vibration for centrifuges.

Based on my experience with the production of sodium bicarbonate.

Thank you Breizh for your input.

Just wondering if you have any field data / literature to support this statement?

Thank you.

Hi,

I don't have data to share with you but you can find pointers in the document attached.

Thank you Breizh. I did read this paper before, but still did not answer my question. My concern is about production (kg/hr) instead of size and crystal growth.

Thanks,

Jordan
