I am very new to the industry. got one assignment for hazardous area classification. there is unloading tanker, two pumps and one atmospheric free vented tank. Fuel is methanol. on the tank there is a vent and level transmitter. and on discharge piping there is one pressure switch. i am just confused do i need to provide zone extent for LT and PS? are they source of release? following 60079.10.1 but i didnt find anything regarding level transmitter and pressure switch in examples.

Generally speaking, as LT and PS are installed on the body of tank. And the tank is used for storing methanol, both instrument should be ex-proof.

Depends on fitting. If an instrument has no joints and is connected to equipment sealless (e.g. welded) then this has no potential to ex-fluid release/leak. And vice versa.

hi,

An explosion proof zone should be drawn during project phase. And the instrument should be selected according to this document.

I don't mean that there is no need for zone classification. What I want to express is that these instruments should be ex-proofed from my feeling even I have not seen your zone.
