Dear All,

Q1. I would like to understand, how to finalize the top and bottom temperatures of the distillation column?

From my understanding the top temperature should be the above the dew point of the overhead vapor composition.

Bottom reboiler outlet temperature is based on the bottom products composition bubble point temperature and boil-up ratio, From bubble point of bottom product to %vaporization needed decides the temperature point in between its bubble and dew point of the mixture.

Kindly guide. Any references in evaluation of top and bottom temperatures in the columns helps. Thanks.

Thanks Breizh sir.

As per discussion on the above link, the Pressure of the column is choosen such that the dewpoint of the overhead stream stays at Temperature approach + CW Supply Temperature.

As the top temperature of the column doesn't get operated at the dewpoint point, is there any rule for column top Temperature to maintain some X degree above the dewpoint of the Overhead stream?

Kindly guide me.

no, the objective of the condenser(total) is to condense the gas This means the cooling water should remove the latent heat of the gas and may be subcooled slightly the stream. you need to make sure the cooling water can perform the job in summer.

Breizh sir,

We often see Air fin fan coolers followed by Cooling water Heat Exchanger right?
