Hi everyone,

I am currently designing a cold vent (atmospheric flare/vent stack) for a high-pressure gas pipeline system operating at 70 bar.

One of the key design parameters I need to determine is the minimum required distance between the blowdown valve and the vent outlet.

Are there any specific standards in teh API 521 ( which i didn't find so far )

So are they any good practice to properly size this distance,

Thanks in advance.

I have seen natural gas vents light off even though they were not meant for a flare. I would design this assuming you had a flame.

I worked on a project for an Enron gas compressor station a while back.  There were automatic blowdown valves throughout the site piping.  They consisted of vertical blowdown lines attached to the top of the pipe with the blowdown valve immediately at connection to pipe and straight pipe extended up vertically discharging to the atmosphere about 6 ft or so.

We also installed a new compressor station with remote blowdown system piping.  We routed all blowdown lines to common vertical remote vent pipe with silencer.

I am not aware of any distance from the blowdown valve requirements of the vent pipe.

Hi,

You may have to use a dispersion model to calculate the height of the vent.

My 2 cents
