Dear Gents,

In our product transfer unit TSV are provided on transfer lines from Tank to loading bay. TSV set pressures 12 bar are observed to match the pumps shut off pressure when operated at minimum flows. Now we need to reset the TSV set pressures,as observed frequent activation leading to maintenance.Whats should be the revised TSV pressure .considering no change in pump operation.

Thanks

Thermal Safety Valves

Weird to me, you cannot change the setpoint as your will.

It has been in use for purpose. If you intend to change the set point you need to perform a safety analysis.

What is design pressure of transfer lines?  What size, schedule, and material is the pipe?

Set pressure of TSV can only be reduced, since line design pressure is 12 barg. Is that what you want? I think not, but the design pressure cannot be exceeded per Code. Time to change the focus of the investigation.

Assuming this is a centrifugal pump, consider replacing the pump impeller with a smaller size. Or set a total flow controller to include forward flow plus recycle flow to keep the pump operating out on its pump curve. The smaller impeller is the better option.
