Hi,

I understand that the purpose of chemical injection system in processing facilities are: to protect agaist corrosion, emulsion breaking and defoaming.

The system consists of basic equipment such as:
Metering pump, tank, etc.........

How can the quantity of chemical to used be determined?
What are the informations that one must be considered during the designing stage?

I would appreciate if this topic is explained further.....

System;

Use a drum or barrel of the chemical, a measuring vessel and a variable pump. For the pump take these things into account;

> Make sure that the pump can provide the MAXIMUM volume needed at MAXIMAL back pressure
> Make sure that the pump can provide the MINIMUM volume needed at MINIMAL back pressure (at low backpressure some dosing pumps hardly work AT ALL because the one way valves don't close properly)
> Use a pump capable of delivering a PRECISE volume over the whole to be expected pressure range (timer and stroke length control combined)

Rather than using the pump to measure the amount have a measuring vessel of suitable size and material so you can check the ACTUAL amount used (trust me, there is a BIG difference between the theoretical and actual volumes .... even with a good dosing pump).


Amount to be used;

It depends on your process, the operating conditions and the chemical(s) to be used.

To take a high pressure boiler for example; the amount of phosphate additive required depends on the load, the concentration of phosphate in the water, the boiler pressure, the acidity level, the purge volume, the required concentration of the phosphate under those conditions and the additive concentration.
