Hello Everyone,

Have any of you experienced in designing a sump for hydrocyclone drain

We have a hydrocyclone used to separate solid particles from the produced water. The design efficiency is d50 cut 50 micron. Inlet is kept at 0.015 m3/s. I am not sure what the underflow rate is but believe it will be minimal. The current thinking is to send the underflow to a sump and let it settle. Pump the water back to the produced water tank continuous or when required, depending on how much is there.

I have read on some websites. Sand catcher underflow is going through a chamber which is normally closed, and open manually for draining once the sand starts to built up.

I am trying to get some idea here from other people's experience. Does the sump need to be a close one? underground or above ground? Since I do not know the underflow rate, how big does the sump need to be. Should there be an intermediate chamber for solids collection before sending it to the sump.

Thanks a lot for your time and any comment is greatly appreciated.
