How NOX is formed in boiler as N2 supposed to be inert gas. what are emission standard for SOX and NOX

There are two sources of NOx in a flue gas. First there is nitrogen that is bound in your fuel and which typically goes to NOx during the combustion process. Second is thermal NOx which forms at higher temperatures under oxidizing conditions as "inert" nitrogen combines with oxygen to form NOx.

The allowed NOx and SOx emission level limits depend on local / national regulations.

Thermal NOx formation in a boiler can be limited by lowering the temperature and / or limiting the available oxygen (a multistep burner in which the combustion air is added in stages is one way to achieve this).
