The pipe line is handling DM water at 55kg pressure.The nominal dia is 6" and design flow is 116400 kg/hr.Eqivalent length of the pipe is 18m.It is schedule 40.Now what is the general methodology to calculate the erosion velocity i.e. the maximum velocity that the line can handle safely?

The question is rather vague...

However, maybe this helps: for your design flow, velocity is 1.7 m/s. For 6" steel pipes, in general the recommendation for water is to keep velocity below 8 ft/s (=2.4 m/s), so I don't see a problem here. For recommended velocity, see for example Carl Branan, "Rules of Thumb for Chemical Engineers", 2nd edition page 6.

You don't mention pipe material, or what the system looks like (pump discharge?).
