dear frnds,
Myself working with L&T have some doubt regarding heating coil for tank.
I m not able to start the design with some refernces.
I m having an storage tank for polyster storage used as an pour point depressor for crude oil. The tank is having OD 5300 mm and height 4000 mm. I have to design an heating coil with transverse finning arrengement for this. The fluid used as an heating medium for this is HYTHERM-500 having following properties.
I/L Temp : 220 C, O/L Temp : 140 C, flowrate of oil: 7 M3/Hr, sp gravity of oil : 0.860
Specific Heat of oil : 0.665 Kcal/ Kg C
As per design i have obtained size of the coil as OD 2" & 19.78 m length. Now the problem is if i have to place fins on this coil i m not able to proceed to calculate fins diameter and no of finns.
please help me to find out the exact calculation for that.
regards,
Dinesh

I have deleted your other, identical post in the Hydrocarbons Forum because of what it states in the Forum's Guidelines:

Why are you trying to use finned tubes? Plain, 2" sched 40 pipe is conventionally used in this application and that should be far better than the finned tubes from the point of economics as well as heat transfer efficiency - not to mention the trouble in bending a finned tube and maintaining it clean and unfouled.
